Home & Family Prayers

“Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1)
The disciples, seeing our Lord so long at prayer,
Asked that they might learn to pray.
And Jesus taught them.

MORNING PRAYER

My Jesus, through Mary the mother of our church and Joseph, I offer You all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day. Your grace and love are enough for me. Give me these, Lord Jesus and I ask for nothing more.

GLORY BE

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

GUARDIAN ANGEL PRAYER

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day, be at my side, to light and guard, rule and guide.  Amen.

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. And his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. And I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

PRAYER FOR A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.  Amen

PRAYER BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

Lord Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Eucharist.  As I receive you in
Holy Communion, help me to love as you loved, serve as you served, so I can be the Body of Christ to others. Amen.

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of Grace! The Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, of sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

SELF DEDICATION

My God and my Father, I give myself wholly and totally in an offering to you this day, in union with the love with which Jesus gave himself upon the cross. I ask You that all my thoughts, words and deeds of this day may be those of the true Son of God. This I ask through Jesus Christ, your beloved Son. Guide and direct this day, Christ, King of Heaven and earth, my heart and body, my thoughts, words and activities in the way of your teaching. By your grace may I be freed from my self-centredness and find my fulfilment in You, the Saviour of the world. Amen

THE MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly to You, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To You I come, before You I stand, sinful and sorrowful, despise not my words O Mother of the Word Incarnate, but graciously hear and grant my prayer. Amen.

THE CONFETEOR

I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do. Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever Virgin, all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Amen.

ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God, because you are so good, I am very sorry that I have sinned against you and by the help of your Grace I will not sin again.
