“He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45)”

It was (and is) curious that each of the speakers of our recent Lenten talk’s series at Mount Merrion spoke of the Scriptures.
How St Therese turned to the “luminous” Scriptures when heavy theological theses were “breaking her head”. How St Benedict promotes the Bible par excellence as a recipe for Christian Transformation. How is our knowledge of God to deepen and grow over a lifetime? The story of the two followers of Jesus on the road to Emmaus is a beautiful story. The two (looking sad) were talking about all the things that had happened when Jesus approaches them. “Why it seems you are the only traveller to Jerusalem who doesn’t know what has happened these past few days” says Cleophas. And Jesus says: “Is the message of the prophets too difficult for you to understand?” Then starting with Moses and going through the prophets (and the psalms) he explained to them everything in the Scriptures concerning himself”. As we read and listen, ruminate and rest in the
Scriptures we grow and deepen in our understanding of God. We can become transformed. “Were not our hearts burning within us when he was talking to us on the road and explaining the Scriptures”?
